This is Shelby my 12-year-old female Sheltie. I adopted her when she was only 8 weeks old. About 2 months after I adopted Shelby, I was diagnosed with breast cancer.
My husband at the time was working out of state, and I was alone much of the day, but had my Shelby. She gave me the strength and courage to fight my disease, and endure my chemotherapy and radiation treatments, and was always by my side.
Shelby knows the name of every one of her toys, and was the only one in her class to graduate obedience training.
Last July she was diagnosed with cancer. She had a benign cyst that had changed into a cancerous one. She was under the care of wonderful doctors from Penn, and I told the surgeon that Shelby saved me when I had cancer, and now it is my turn to save her. And he did! I am happy to say that I have been cancer free for 12 years, and Shelby is also cancer free.
